한반도 평화를 염원, 뉴욕 맨하탄 평화대회 개최

The Peace Foundation(이사장 법륜스님 ) & Good Friends USA 북미지부 뉴욕.뉴저지회원들은 시민단체들과 함께 12월 23일(토) 맨하탄 W.42가와 5th Ave 브라이언트 파크 앞에 모여서 “한반도 전쟁반대와 평화협상”을 촉구하는 1223한반도 평화대회를 개최한다.
지난 11월 맨하탄 32가에서 시작한 전쟁반대 평화피켓 시위는 12월에도 맨하탄 , 뉴저지, 플러싱에서 진행 해 오고 있다. 토론토, 벤쿠버, 워싱턴 , 달라스, 시에틀, 엘에이, 샌프란시스코, 샌디에고, 파리,런던, 베를린 , 뮌헨, 시드니, 방콕등 해외 대도시 지역에서도 동시에 진행되고 있는 평화피켓 릴레이 시위에는 한반도 평화를 염원하는 세계인들이 함께 하고 있다
-영국 런던 교민과 외국인피켓시위-
한국에 본부를 두고 있는 평화재단은 앞서 11월5일 시민 7000여명이 참여한 가운데 ‘ 평화시민행동’을 개최한 바 있다. 이후 군사충돌반대·한반도 평화를 염원하는 1인 평화피켓시위와 매주 토요일 전국 7개 도시에서 평화촛불행사를 진행하고 있다. 1인 평화피켓시위는 전국 80여곳에서 800회 진행됐으며 지금까지 참가인원은 1500여명에 달한다. 평화촛불행사는 전국 7개 도시에서 4차례 개최됐고 6000여명이 참석했다. 12월23일 오후 2시 서울 광화문 북측광장에서 ‘2017 한반도 평화대회-만인의 바람 평화를 합창하다’를 개최한다.

이번 뉴욕 맨하탄 평화대회에서는 한반도의 평화가 세계평화의 초석이라는 믿음에서 출발한다. 한반도에서 전쟁이 일어나면 미국·러시아·중국·일본 등 4대 강국이 바로 개입해 세계 전쟁으로 번지기 쉽기 때문에 이번 대회를 통해 전 세계에 ‘군사충돌반대·한반도 평화’의 메시지를 분명히 전달하고 공감대를 형성하고자 한다.
평화를 소망하는 시민들이면 누구든지 참석할 수 있으며 행사는 한반도 평화선언, 모두발언, 회원들의 합창, 평화 행진을 할 예정이다.

지구상의 마지막 분단국가인 한반도는 전쟁의 위협에 두려워하고 있습니다.
북한의 김정은 위원장은 국제사회의 우려에도, 핵과 미사일 개발을 포기하지 않고 있습니다. 이에 미국 도널드 트럼프 대통령은 북한을 테러국으로 재지정하고, 경제적 제재와 군사적 위협으로 맞서고 있습니다. 서로 한 치의 양보도 없고, 대화도 없는 긴장상황이 계속되고 있습니다.
To all peace-loving global citizens!
The Korean peninsula, home to the last remaining vestiges of the Cold War, is engulfed in fear at the threat of another war.
North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un, is not giving up his nuclear development program despite concerns made clear by the international community. President Donald Trump re-designated North Korea as a ‘state sponsor of terrorism’ and is responding with both economic and military threats. Both are locked arm in arm, without real dialogue, and tensions only growing.
만약 전쟁이 나면 북한은 미국을 향해 핵미사일 공격을 시도할 것이고, 세계대전으로 비화될 가능성이 높습니다. 이것은 상상하기조차 끔찍한 일입니다. 한반도의 전쟁은 아시아뿐만 아니라 세계평화를 위협하게 될 것입니다. 어떤 일이 있어도 전쟁은 막아야 합니다. 우리는 평화를 지키고자 이곳에 나왔습니다.
If there is a war, North Korea will attempt to direct its nuclear missile towards the United States, likely leading to another World War. This outcome is too horrible to even imagine. War on the Korean peninsula will not only jeopardize peace in Asia but all around the world. No matter what, war must be avoided. We are out here to preserve peace.
대한민국은 아름다운 기적의 나라입니다. 1950년 한국전쟁으로 폐허의 땅에서 일어나 세계 11위의 경제대국이 되었으며, 자유를 사랑하는 민주주의 국가입니다. 작년, 평화와 민주주의를 열망하는 한국인들은 ‘촛불’ 하나로 불의한 권력을 평화롭게 탄핵하고 새로운 질서를 창조할 희망으로 하나되었습니다. 그러나 촛불로 평화의 공간을 연 지 1년, 북한과 미국의 힘겨루기 속에서 남한과 북한, 그리고 해외 동포를 포함하여 8천만 명의 한국인들은 전쟁의 위기와 두려움에 직면하고 있습니다.
The Republic of Korea is a country borne of a beautiful miracle. From the ashes of the Korean War in the early 1950s to the 11th largest economy in the world today, it is a country that values freedom and democracy. Last year, Koreans yearning for peace and true democracy gathered their hopes for creating a new social order, symbolically held in candles, by millions of everyday citizens to peacefully urge the impeachment of unjust power. Yet within a year since these peaceful ‘candle’ protests, more than 80 million Koreans – in the South, in the North and abroad – are faced with the real threat of war amidst the power struggle between North Korea and the U.S.
대한민국 국민들은 다시 촛불을 들고 광장에 나섰습니다. 서울, 부산, 대구, 대전, 울산, 광주 등 6개 도시에서 매주 토요일 평화를 촉구하는 촛불집회를 열고 있으며, 전국 62개 지역에서 평화와 대화를 바라는 시민들이 피켓을 드는 시위를 매일 진행하고 있습니다. 뿐만 아니라, 미국의 뉴욕, 워싱턴, LA 등지에서, 유럽의 파리, 런던, 베를린 등지에서 오스트레일리아의 시드니 등 세계 16개 도시에서 매주 한반도 평화를 기원하는 촛불집회를 열고 있습니다.
Koreans have once again come out into streets holding candles. Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, Ulsan and Gwangju – Korea’s six largest cities – are holding gatherings every Saturday to urge peace. Citizens in more than 62 locations are holding placards every day pleading for peace and dialogue. Furthermore, in 16 cities outside of Korea including New York, Washington, LA, Paris, London, Berlin and Sydney, every week there is a gathering where people hold candles for peace on the Korean peninsula.
평화는 공짜로 주어지지 않습니다. 평화는 우리 스스로 창조해야 합니다. 평화는 나로부터 시작해야 합니다. 여러분과 우리의 간절한 바람과 행동이 한반도의 평화와 세계평화를 실현하는 길을 만들 것입니다. 한반도의 평화를 위해 함께 참여해주십시오. 기도로, 행동으로, 기부로, SNS캠페인으로 무엇이든 함께 해주십시오.
Peace will not happen on its own. Peace must be created on our own volition. Peace must start from oneself. All of your heartfelt wishes and efforts will pave the way towards realizing peace on the Korean peninsula and the world. Please join us. With your prayers, your actions, your contributions or a social media campaign. In whichever way feels right for you, please join us for the peace on the Korean peninsula.
내년 2018년 2월 9일부터 3월 18일까지 대한민국 평창에서 동계올림픽이 열립니다.(동계 패럴올림픽 포함). 평창 동계올림픽은 95개국 이상이 참가하여 동계올림픽 역사상 최대 규모의 축제가 될 것입니다. 2018년 평창올림픽이 분쟁과 테러에 신음하는 세계시민들에게 희망의 올림픽, 평화의 축제가 될 수 있도록 지구촌의 세계시민들이 모두 한목소리로 ‘Peace in Korea! Peace in the World!’를 외쳐주십시오.
Next year, in 2018, from February 9th to March 18th, the Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics will take place in Pyeongchang in the Republic of Korea. This upcoming Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang is expected to be the largest ever in scale with more than 95 countries participating. Let’s make this global festival even more special by bringing hope and celebrating peace. Let’s raise our collective voice for ‘Peace in Korea! Peace in the World!’
미국의 트럼프 대통령은 경제 제재와 군사옵션을 배제하고, 조건 없는 대화를 시작해야 합니다. 북한의 김정은 위원장 역시 핵개발과 미사일 개발을 잠시 멈추고 대화를 시작해야 합니다. 한반도에서의 항구적인 평화체제를 만들기 위해 미국과 북한은 정전협정을 끝내고, 평화협정을 맺어야 합니다.
President Trump should rule out economic sanctions and military options against North Korea and start a dialogue with no preconditions. Kim Jong-un should put a hold on his country’s nuclear development program and joins a dialogue as well. In order to have long-standing peace on the Korean peninsula, we must end the armistice and sign a peace treaty.
한반도의 전쟁을 막고 평화를 만드는 일은 전 세계인들의 관심과 호응이 있어야 가능한 일입니다. 한반도의 평화가 세계평화의 초석이 될 것입니다. 한반도의 평화를 만드는 유일한 해법은 대화입니다. 역사적 저항운동이자 위대한 평화의 가능성을 열었던 대한민국의 촛불이 전쟁의 위기 앞에 꺼지지 않도록, 나아가 세계 평화의 길잡이로 기여할 수 있도록 적극적인 지지와 연대의 목소리를 내주시기 바랍니다.
Preventing war and creating peace on the Korean peninsula will only be possible with the interest and help of global citizens. Peace on the Korean peninsula will turn a new leaf in world history and world peace. The only path towards peace on the Korean peninsula is dialogue. Let’s bring out our candles to shine once more in the face of great obstacles to symbolize our collective yearning for world peace. Please raise your candles and your voices in solidarity in joining this path towards the world peace.
